I started writing about how growing up in Hawaii’s culture and getting involved in things like hula and paddling have impacted me. I’m hoping I can get some good feedback in the peer review because I was too focused on getting an idea and typing it all out to actually make it any good. I think it has potential to show how I’ve developed as a person and after changing my topic several times now I think I’ll stick with this one because it’s about the best I’ve come up with so far.
Best Fair Memory
I can’t really decide on one memory from fair that’s significantly better than any other because I really enjoy the whole experience. I actually had a lot of fun at my malasada shift last year because I got to talk to some of my classmates who I hadn’t really talked to before. But in general I always look forward to eating my favorite fair food, riding on the swings, and walking around with friends, so I guess all of these would be my favorite memories from fair.
Narrowing down my topic
So far I don’t think any of the topics from my timeline would make a very interesting or detailed essay. I’m feeling pretty uninspired at all of my topic ideas so I think I’ll have to keep brainstorming ideas.
Most vivid memory on my timeline
One of the most vivid memories from my timeline is from the day that me and my family went to go pick up my dog. I hadn’t initially written this on my timeline but my friend just got a dog today and I started thinking about when I first got mine. I was in 4th grade and this was the first dog I’d ever had. We went to go pick her up from my mom’s friends house because her dog just had 3 chihuahua-dachsund puppies. She was so small when we got her and I remember her bark being pretty high pitched. We also went to pick up a kennel for her because she was young and we didn’t know how she’d act in our house. This memory is obviously so important to me because she’s become part of our family and even though she’s 8 years old now she’s still my baby.
If I could meet anyone who would I wanna meet and why?
This is a really hard question because there are a ton of people I admire but I’m not sure if I’d want to actually meet them. It’s also kind of intimidating to think about meeting a famous person. But if I had to choose I think I’d want to meet Khalid. Khalid is my favorite artist because I just love everything about his music. There’s variety to his songs but they all fall under the chill category. I’ve seen him in concert and I absolutely loved it and he’s seriously amazing. I also know that he didn’t have a super easy life growing up so I’d want to ask him about that and how he got to where he is now.
Book Talks Day 2
I feel like I prepared really well for my Book Talk but as always I was nervous. I really don’t know why because there was no one actually in front of me but I guess that’s just how it is for me when it comes to presentations. I hope that I caught at least someone’s attention about the book because I really did like it. It was also kind of hard to choose a passage because there were so many other passages that were just as emotional and well-worded as the one I chose.
Seobeen’s book sounds like it gives a really in-depth perspective of an Asian-American and their life experiences which seems pretty interesting. Although I’m not sure if I’d choose it because I don’t think it would be as relatable for me as it would be for others.
Book Talk day 1
I noticed that the presentations that focused more on summary of the book didn’t interest me as much as those that shared their personal feelings about the book. I also think it was much less awkward then some people thought it was, they all did great despite the circumstances. Some of the books sounded really interesting but I think Bossypants in particular (the one Dylan presented) would be fun for me to read. The way he describes it makes it sound really funny and relatable, which are two factors anyone would want in a book.
I think I’d rather only eat food that I grow because it’d be really cool to have an all-natural diet. Also some of my favorite foods like mangos and lychee can be grown here so that works out pretty well. I would definitely need to dedicate a lot of time to growing my garden but with enough variety of plants I could actually make a lot of things that I’d normally buy at the store. Eating only from my garden would also be very environmentally friendly, cheap, and healthy. It’s definitely not the most practical lifestyle but I think the benefits would be very worth it.
Free Choice: Netflix Recommendation
If you’re looking for a good Netflix show to watch during quarantine, I highly recommend How To Get Away With Murder. I’m not usually able to breeze through Netflix series because I have a really bad attention span and can’t watch back-to-back 45 minute episodes, but I definitely managed to binge HTGAWM pretty fast over break. The show is about a group of law students chosen to intern with their hard-core law professor. As they work together on cases and start to get to know each other more, they’re each roped into the drama and chaos that seems to emanate from their professor. In just the first episode you’ll see clips from a dark scene later on in the season that can only be explained by watching the rest of the episodes. The group must keep their big secret through every means necessary, they’ll lie, betray, and frame anyone to protect themselves. I really can’t do the show any justice by trying to explain it so just go watch it. Trust me, you’ll be hooked in the first couple minutes and you won’t have to complain about being bored for awhile.
I finished up my book throughout the last week of 3rd quarter and spring break and I realized it’d probably be a good idea to start my book review while everything was still fresh in my mind. I wrote down my initial thoughts and ideas without really looking at the rubric and guidelines for the paper. I thought I should at least write down the main points of the book so I don’t forget them and this week I could focus on analyzing the writing and sharing my opinions about it. As for the book talk I’ll probably just base what I say off of what I’ve written.
